Prerequisite 1: Internet Information Services (IIS)
PDFescape Enterprise requires that IIS 5.0 or higher, with Active Server Pages (ASP) and Server Side Includes (SSI) enabled. The default IIS anonymous user (usually IUSR_Computer Name) must also exist and provide anonymous access to the Default Website on the server.
By default in Windows 2000, IIS is preinstalled with ASP and SSI enabled.
Windows 2003 generally has IIS preinstalled, however this should be verified before installing PDFescape Enterprise.
Installing IIS
Open the Windows Control Panel and open the Add/Remove Programs Dialog
Click Add / Remove Windows Components
Highlight "Application Server" and click Details.
If "Internet Information Services (IIS)" is checked, this means that IIS is installed. If IIS is not checked, check it and press OK.
Be sure that your Windows CD is in your server's CD-ROM drive and Internet Information Services (IIS) will be installed.
Once Internet Information Services (IIS) is installed you will now need to configure it.
Configuring IIS, Enabling ASP and SSI Windows 2003 / IIS 6.0 and higher only
Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager in your Administrator Tools folder
With the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager open, expand the local computer in the left pane.
Select Web Service Extensions in the left pane
Select Active Server Pages in the right pane. If "Prohibited", click "Allow"
Select Server Side Includes in the right pane. If "Prohibited", click "Allow"
IIS should now be properly configured.
Please be sure that IUSR_Computer Name exists and is the anonymous user for the Default Website. This can be checked by selecting "Websites" in the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Right click "Default Web Site", click Properties. Click the Directory Security tab, and click Edit. The username listed should be IUSR_Computer Name. If it is not, reset this back to the default IUSR_Computer Name.
Prerequisite 2: Microsoft SQL Server 2005
PDFescape Enterprise requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to operate properly.
Any edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is supported, however instructions are only provided for Microsoft's free edition of SQL Server, SQL Server 2005 Express. Other editions will install in a very similar manner. We highly recommend that SQL Server be installed to use Windows Authentication Mode.
Installing SQL Server Express
First, Download SQL Server 2005 Express
You do not need to install the "Advanced Services" version, only "Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition" need be installed. The default installation settings generally will work well. "SQL Server Management Studio Express" can assist with managing databases on the server, however it is not required.
Accept the license agreement and begin installing SQL Server 2005.
When installing, we recommend that "Windows Authentication Mode" be selected.
If not sure if you are logged in as an administrator, you may wish to add yourself as an administrator to the database server.
Without a license, PDFescape Enterprise will default to the DEMO version. The PDFescape Enterprise DEMO will only allow a single file to be published for distribution using PDFescape Enterprise. All saved files will display a watermark indicating that was saved using the DEMO. The DEMO version is not licensed for use in a "live server environment" meaning that it is to be used for evaluation purposes only.
Installing PDFescape Enterprise
Start the installer by clicking "Run" if prompted by Windows. This will allow PDFescape Enterprise to run on your server. Be sure you are logged in as an administrator.
Click "Next" / "Install" through each prompt, configuring your preferences, to begin installation.
When installation is complete, let the installer run the PDFescape Enterprise Configuration Tool. It will automatically start up with the database configuration dialog. Set your connection settings and then click "Connect to Database".
Be sure all boxes are checked and click "Setup SQL Server". This will prompt the configuration tool to create the needed Database, user permissions, logins, tables, and a default admin account.
You now will be returned to the main PDFescape Enterprise Configuration Tool. Set all settings in the tool for your server and click "Save to Server" which will make all needed changes to the site files for PDFescape Enterprise.
Your new PDFescape Enterprise Server should now be properly configured!
